Packing Your Parcel

The first step has to be pacing the parcel correctly. When you’re dealing with temperature-sensitive items you can’t just pack as much as possible into a box. The box needs to have air flowing through it, this will ensure it remains at the temperature of the air-cooled refrigerator carrier.

Ideally, the package will have small vent holes to encourage airflow. It also needs to have pre-designed slots inside the box. This is where your product goes. The pre-defined slots allow each item to have a secure spot within the package and still have airflow.

Of course, you need to pack the parcel in the temperature you want to keep the product and make sure it remains refrigerated until the courier service arrives.

A Trusted Courier

There are plenty of courier services operating but you need to choose a reputable one that has experience dealing with temperature-sensitive deliveries. This will increase the likelihood of your product arriving safely

If you don’t know of a specific company ask friends and colleagues, or consult social media to find the most appropriate service. Once you’ve located a suitable service you’ll need to contact them to verify their availability and terms of service.

At the same time, you should make sure you and your staff are familiar with the country rules regarding temperature-sensitive products. It’s essential to tick all the right boxes and avoid holdups.

Temperature Monitoring

Another great idea is to add temperature indicators to your parcels. These are small stickers that are set to a specific temperature range. In the center of a sticker is a colored dot. If the temperature of the package moves outside the determined range the dot will change color. The receiver will be alerted regarding the issue.

This approach is very effective at ensuring each step of the delivery service takes responsibility for the products they are delivering. Because, if they don’t look after them properly it will be obvious that the temperature was not maintained by them.

It won’t stop accidents from happening but it will improve the likelihood of the parcel getting there within the tight temperature range.

Add Coolant

It’s a good idea to add coolant to your packaging to ensure the items stay at the appropriate temperature. Dry ice is generally a good option but your choice of coolant will depend on what you are shipping. For example, dry ice is not a good choice for live seafood.

Gel packs are often an effective and efficient choice as they can be re-used, just make sure they are secured properly and won’t damage the goods in transit.
