At some point, every homeowner will need to deal with pests. Whether you’re looking at a case of termites, rodents, or perhaps a fly infestation, you’re going to want to take prompt action and get the local pest control experts in to resolve the issue.
Of course, it’s better and generally easier to prevent the pests from becoming an issue. Fortunately, there are several ways you can do this. But, one of the most effective is via electronic pest control. It’s often referred to as an ultrasonic pest repellent.
How It Works
The ultrasonic pest repellent is surprisingly small, it can be held in one hand. To use it you simply plug it into an electrical socket.
Once plugged in it will start emitting an ultrasonic sound. This high-frequency sound is too high-pitched for humans to hear. For reference, the average human can hear sounds ranging from 20 to 20,000 Hz. The short wave frequency used by ultrasonic transmitters is generally closer to 65,000 Hz!
Humans may not be able to hear it but insects can, and it’s annoying to them. Just as a constant high-pitched sound would be annoying to us!
The insects will avoid the area where they hear this sound, effectively preventing them from settling in your home and being a nuisance. If you have a large home you will need to invest in several of these devices. It’s best to refer to the manufacturer’s instructions regarding how many you need to protect your home and perhaps your garden as well.
Of course, you won’t be able to hear the sound. But, there is a small LED on the unit, when it’s lit up the unit is working. If it’s not lit up or the insects are coming in anyway then you have an issue with your device and may need to replace it.
They’re Not New!
You may be surprised to discover that ultrasonic pest repellents were first used in the 1950s, with the first patent being filed in the 1960s. This is not new technology but it remains an effective approach to eliminating insects from your home.
It doesn’t just work. The ultrasonic pest repellent is also surprisingly cost-effective. You can usually pick up several of these units for under $50 and they’ll last for several years, without you having to do anything. That’s considerably cheaper and less hassle than using repellent sprays and otherinsect traps.
Other Considerations
These devices are effective but it doesn’t hurt to take a few extra precautions. For instance, inspecting the exterior of your home and eliminating any cracks and gaps will make it much harder for insects to get into your home.
Adding screens to your doors and windows will allow you to leave them open, letting the fresh air in but keeping the pests out. These will help your ultrasonic pest repellents to be effective and allow you to enjoy the space inside your home, without worrying about being bitten every five minutes.
